Coraci Ruiz begleitet die Geschlechtsumwandlung ihrer heranwachsenden Tochter mit der Kamera und damit auch die Konflikte, die Gewissheiten und die Ungewissheiten, die sie auf der Suche nach ihrer Identität beschäftigen. Ihre Mutter hat schon in den 1960ern für Frauenrechte in Brasilien demonstriert, und so will auch sie selbst überholte Paradigmen durchbrechen und sich ihren Ängsten und Vorurteilen stellen. Denn nicht nur ihre Tochter durchläuft einen Transformationsprozess.
Der autobiografische Dokumentarfilm THRESHOLD begleitet vor dem Hintergrund des autoritären Aufschwungs der brasilianischen Regierung drei Generationen einer Familie im Kampf um Selbstbestimmung.

Biography
Coraci Ruiz has a degree in Dance, a Master in Audiovisual Culture and Media and a PhD in Multimedia, all from Unicamp. Among her main productions are the feature films „Threshold“ (2020) and „Letters to Angola“ (2012), which has participated in more than 30 festivals in 16 countries and was awarded prizes in Brazil, Angola, Portugal and Belgium; and the short films „Nostalgia, video letters to Cuba“ (2005), „Another City“ (2009), „Letters from Exile“ (2015) and „Strong Feather“ (2019). She is currently working on a nee feature film: „Blooming on the asphalt“ (to be released in 2021).
