Regisseur Paulo Carneiro macht sich auf den Weg in die Schweiz, um fernab von Portugal seine Landsleute zu treffen. Auch sie sind so wie er große Auto-Fans. In nächtlichen Gesprächen an Tankstellen, vor Werkstätten und in Parkgaragen erkundet Carneiro mit seinen Gesprächspartner*innen über die Liebe zum Auto Fragen nach Identität, Zugehörigkeit und Gemeinschaft. Das Auto ist dabei mehr als ein Gebrauchsgegenstand: Einerseits scheinen sie in ihm eine Form von Heimat zu wiederzufinden, andererseits wird es zum Statussymbol eines geglückten Lebens in der Ferne.
In den Gesprächen tritt Carneiro selbst vor die Kamera und führt in sorgfältig eingerichteten und klaren Einstellungen Gespräche über Distanz, Verbundenheit, Reifenprofile und Pferdestärken.

BIOGRAPHY
Paulo Carneiro
Born in Lisbon, 1990 and raised in Pontinha (suburbs). He graduated in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and later from the National Film School and HEAD – Genève (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation fellow). Work as assistant director and editor since 2011. Lectured Cinema as visiting professor at FLUC in ’21 (University of Coimbra). In 2018 directs his first feature film BOSTOFRIO, OÙ LE CIEL REJOINT LA TERRE (IndieLisboa), multi-awarded and shown in more than 40 international film festivals around the world. In 2019 it was released in Portuguese cinemas in several cities and is acclaimed by the critic’s as “top 10 films of the year” for Jornal Público (most cultural newspaper in PT). BOSTOFRIO reached more than half a million spectators globally (festivals, TVs, cinemas, streaming, etc). In 2021 his project MY LAND MY STRENGTH is selected for Doc Station/ Berlinale Talents.
