Maxime Jean-Baptiste rüttelt sanft am VHS-Material der Premiere jenes Dokumentarfilms in dem sein Vater eine Komparsenrolle im Re-enactment des Mordprozesses eines kolonialen Abenteuers verkörpert und bringt die Bilder einer Guyanischen Karnevalprozessiondurch die Pariser Straßen der 1990er Jahre zum Beben. Feierliche Repräsentation und Spektakel geraten durchs Schütteln undZerreißen ins Wanken, dabei wird entlarvt, wie Filmpraktiken in ihren kolonialen Verstrickungen durch gewaltvolle FestschreibungenGeister verschütten. Eine Befragung, die wilde Gewässer in Bewegung bringt, Autor*innenschaft rück-aneignet und dabei Sprachen und Körper restituiert, getragen vom Beat von Jossy Masses Song Moune Ô.

BIOGRAPHY
Maxime JEAN-BAPTISTE (1993) is a filmmaker who works between Brussels and Paris. He grew up in France, in the context of the Guyanese and West Indian diaspora. As an artist, he is interested in the complexity of Western colonial history by detecting and portraying the survival of past traumas in the present. In doing so, he delves into archives and types of reenactments that imagine living and embodied memories.
