2002 traf Giovanni Princigalli erstmals Aidas Familie, die in ihrer Roma-Community isoliert am Stadtrand von Bari lebte. Aida war damals noch ein Teenager und träumte von einer Karriere als Model und Sängerin und von einem besseren Leben außerhalb des Camps. Zwanzig Jahre später ist sie Mutter und Ehefrau. Von ihrem Mann vernachlässigt, leidet sie an Depressionen und will sich scheiden lassen, was zu einem Konflikt mit ihrer Familie führt.
LA CHANSON D’AIDA erzählt von Aidas Kampf um Emanzipation, Unabhängigkeit und für ein besseres Leben über 20 Jahre hinweg. Durch ihre Geschichte bietet der Film einen nahegehenden Einblick in eine italienische Roma-Gemeinschaft, die von anhaltender Armut, Vorurteilen und Marginalisierung betroffen ist.

BIOGRAPHY
Giovanni Princigalli is an Italian and Canadian citizen. In 2006 he obtained a Master in Cinema in Montreal. After that he was a movie editor for the Italo-Canadians filmmakers: Paul Tana and Bruno Ramirez.In 2007 he funded his company “Heros fragiles” and worked in Africa, Cuba, the Italian community in Canada and in the gipsy community in Italy. In 2012 he was a member of the international jury at the festival Vues d’Afrique of Montreal.
