Back in his native Nigeria, Filmmaker Jide Tom Akinleminu questions an old man’s oracle about his family history. He wants to know why for 30 years his father led a double life with a second, secret family and why his mother, Grete, who lives in Denmark, never asked questions about it. Many of his Nigerian friends advise him to let bygones be bygones, but he decides to set off for Canada and visit his half-brother Sam.
WHEN A FARM GOES AFLAME gently brings to light an extraordinary family history through Grete’s letters from Nigeria to her parents, shared conversations at the breakfast table, and recordings from the family archive.
