What is it like to live in a country torn apart by war, and how are those who have managed to stay in their homeland? Filmmakers Piotr Pawlus and Tomasz Wolski set out to show what goes on in Ukraine’s shelled-out cities and burnt-down villages. Through their journey, they create a picture of civilian life in war that is both comprehensive and multi-layered.

In carefully assembled tableau-like shots, W UKRAINE takes us into the experience of a country at war, from family trips to posing in front of destroyed Russian tanks to soldiers on the front line, entrenched under trees, enduring enemy fire. These are images that have become part of the collective consciousness and provide a source of hope for the victory of humanity.
