A freight train makes its way across Peru in an incredible descent from the Andes, at an altitude of 4,800 metres, to the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The freight: valuable minerals from the mining areas for the world market. The railroad that winds through breathtaking landscapes, is a lifeline, an economic necessity and at the same time a testimony to man’s exploitation of resources carried out at all costs. Mining promises stability and growth but also causes widespread environmental damage and social upheaval.
Like a road movie on rails, VIDA FERREA follows this route and tells in numerous encounters about the state of a country that is still trapped in a neocolonial system.
