In the 1970s, the city of Tolyatti with its huge Lada car factory was once the symbol of socialist pride and Soviet progress. Today, the factories stand idle, and Tolyatti transformed into one of Russia’s poorest cities. To escape everyday life and the lack of prospect, young people entertain themselves with nighttime races in their iconic, patched-up Ladas and Drifting sessions on the frozen Volga tributaries.
Filmmaker Laura Sistero accompanies Slava, Misha, and Lera in the year in which they have to confront adulthood for the first time, staging with audiovisual dynamism a place where the future seems to be a dystopia.

BIOGRAPHY
Laura Sisteró was born in Barcelona in 1986. In 2008 she obtained a degree of Audiovisual Production at EMAV. In 2012 she obtained a bachelor’s degree in film at the ESCAC school in Barcelona, specializing in documentary direction. She currently combines her work as a photographer, advertising and television director, with more personal fiction and documentary film projects. “Tolyatti Adrift” is her first feature-length documentary.
