Landmines from the Yugoslav wars are still being searched for and defused. The experiences of war are deeply imprinted in the minds of the inhabitants of Velika Kladuša, a village located near the Bosnian-Croatian border with the EU. Now, they are confronted with the fate of today’s war refugees who try to cross the border into the European Union through the surrounding forests.
The essay film THE LANDSCAPE AND THE FURY paints a picture of a border region where generations of humanitarian crises have left their mark on the landscape. Alongside grief, anger and memories of wars past and present, it is the encounters between people that offer comfort and retain hope for a better future.
