Kai Luo moves from China to Boston to study film. There he meets the Afro-American bon vivant Hal Rawlers, who is deeply rooted in the communities of his neighborhood. A friendship develops from fleeting encounters. A year later, using his camera, Luo attempts to reveal the complexities of their friendship. In the process of re-enacting scenes of their initial meetings, they both begin to struggle with the authenticity and the ethical issues of the project.

In SHENG LING DUI HUA , Kai Luo’s search for an artistic form of reflection and a way of looking at others and oneself leads to a moving portrait of an unusual friendship.

BIOGRAPHY
**Kai Luo**, born in Shenzhen, Guangdong, and now based in Boston, is a filmmaker and performance artist. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics, he sought to distance himself from urban life by spending a transformative period in Dêgê, Tibet. This experience shaped his creative vision. Currently pursuing an MFA in Media Art and Film at **Emerson College**, Kai’s work explores the intricate dynamics of contemporary urban experiences, focusing on themes that challenge constructs of authenticity and delve into the depths of obsession.
Using his body because it’s immediately available, Kai seeks to provoke deep reflections on the transient and often unsettling nature of modern relationships, challenging viewers to confront societal norms. His recent project, *Holy Ghost Conversation*, blurs the lines between authenticity and representation. His work has been showcased at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and other gallaries, continuing to inspire thought and dialogue.
