MARQUIS DE WAVRIN. DU MANOIR À LA JUNGLE

To escape imprisonment, in 1913 the Belgian Marquis, Robert de Wavrin, embarked a boat to Buenos Aires and thus impetuously fulfilled his dream of travelling. Soon tired of the comfort cities provided, the Marquis started to explore the most remote corners of South America. Until 1938, he exposed over 6.000 meters of film footage. Beside spectacular recordings of the natural world, the ethnographic encounters (which were considered rather peculiar at the time) particularly lured the masses into the cinemas of Europe. When colour film started its triumph, the Marquis eventually fell into oblivion.
