The conflict in the Karabakh region rumbles on stealthily. In a journey through eastern Armenia, Daniel Kötter follows human and non-human actors in this borderland between Lake Sevan and the Sotk gold mine, the eastern part of which has been occupied by Azerbaijan since the Karabakh war of 2020. The inhabitants lead a meagre existence in constant fear and insecurity. But who owns this land and what are the consequences of the conflict parties’ decisions, which are being carried out on the expense of the local population?
LANDSHAFT sketches the psychogeography of a geopolitically charged landscape and its inhabitants caught between extractivism, war and displacement. How do these power games manifest in the mountains, waters and fields?
