In The Hague, three interpreters of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia take their position as mediators between the parties. They were born in the former Yugoslavia and experienced the war first hand. They must keep their memories and feelings to themselves, no matter whether the people whose statements they translate are accused of committing war crimes or are the victims of the same.

IN FLOW OF WORDS reflects the discrepancy between the emotional and psychological impact of narratives of violence that interpreters must deal with objectively, and, contrary to their position at the tribunal, places their voices and experiences center stage.

Director: Elaine Esther Bots
Camera: Daniel Donato
