I’tikaaf (Arabic: اعتكاف) refers to the practice of isolating oneself from the outside world for a certain period of time in order to be able to reflect and keep away from profane matters of everyday life. Two brothers, Ahmad and Bilal, have been living with the German pastor Klaus Wening for six months. While they wait for news about their asylum status, the church asylum grants them security, at least temporarily, but the seemingly never-ending waiting is tiring.
I’TIKAAF tells a story of exile and community, of waiting with uncertain outcome, and outlines the microcosm of the rectory that the two brothers are unable to leave without consequences.

BIOGRAPHIES
Raaed Al Kour is a Syrian director living in Germany. In 2018/2019 he worked at the Munich Kammerspiele as an actor and assistant – Taking part in realizing the autobiographical script “What They Want To Hear”. Since 2019 he has been studying documentary filmmaking at the University of Television and Film in Munich.
Anna-Maria Dutoit was born in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Munich, Germany, where she completed her studies in Political Science and Geography. Since 2019 she has been studying documentary filmmaking at the University of Television and Film in Munich.
