In presence of Johannes Grenzfurthner
Dressed in a yellow hazmat suit, Johannes Grenzfurthner has set up shop in the control room of the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant. There he awaits the nuclear end of the world. In the meantime, he still has a lot to share. A hodgepodge of images from media history, popular culture and video games, interviews with activists, artists, tech nerds and hackers reconstruct and decode the colonial history of North America, the oppression of the Navajo Indians, and the hegemonies that result from these pasts.
HACKING AT LEAVES is a fast-paced tour d’images that uses humour and irony to provoke critical thinking. Can techno-nerds from the Navajo ‘Makerspace’ community in Durango, Colorado, ultimately save the world that has been thrown apart at the seams not only by the pandemic?
