Celsa brews teas and essences and attaches roots to the body in pain. With tubers, herbs and leaves that find their way from her overgrown garden into her kitchen, she attempts to heal body and soul, and with them the pain of Paraguay’s past, whose dictatorship tortured and imprisoned her 45 years ago. For the past does not just reverberate in traumatised bodies: the country is now ruled by the son of the former dictator’s right-hand man.
GUAPO’Y tells a powerful story about social wounds and the way in which self-healing becomes an act of resistance that expresses a person’s unbroken determination. A finely woven narrative that refuses to forget the crimes committed by the military dictatorship.

BIOGRAPHY
Sofia Paoli Thorne was born in Peru in 1982, she had to move with her family to Paraguay in 1989 escaping the armed conflicts. There she became a director, a producer and founded Tekoha Audiovisual where she made different audiovisual pieces for television, documentary films and NGOs videos.
