The former working-class ghetto of Frogtown on the L.A. River is confronted with the impending revitalisation of the river and the gentrification and displacement that comes with development. Overnight, the neighborhood has become an object of desire for investors and speculators. In three episodes, residents speak about their daily lives, their concerns and their experiences with the business models that transform their existence into a precarious culture of survival.
In FROGTOWN (THREE SHORTS), the tensions of power relations are cinematically translated into satellite views of Frogtown. Animated figures of people operate in these tableaux, narrating their invisible fates.
