High time to go shopping, because it’s that time again: for one weekend, Michelle is allowed to visit Jermaine in prison. In 2007, they got married in the visitor zone. Over the course of almost a decade, Nele Dehnenkamp filmed Michelle’s countless visits to her lawyer’s office, her appearances at solidarity events for wrongly convicted African-Americans, and her time-limited phone calls from prison. As she struggles to prove his innocence, new documents emerge that cast doubt on his previous testimony.

FOR THE TIME BEING is an intimate long-term observation of love, devotion and female resilience that reveals the ongoing structural racism of the ailing US justice system
