Lacking prospects and work in Romania, Maria and Tirloi go begging in Hamburg to earn a living for themselves, their children, and grandchildren. They sleep under bridges and in parks, constantly in fear of being discovered and driven away. Whenever they gather enough money, they travel home, back to their relatives.

Andrei Schwartz accompanies Maria and Tirloi for five years, following their tiring journey that unfolds outside the public perception. How can one succeed in integration and a better life when one is unwanted and doesn’t get a chance either at home or abroad? Against all odds and difficulties, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
