CON LAS MANOS EN LA TIERRA
Ronyk (Floriano E.H. Cruz) | Mexico 2013 | 26 Min. | OmeU
It all began, when the Tsotsil filmmaker Ronyk invited his protagonist Don Sirilo over for a breakfast. Ronyk was curious to meet the older man, who sells his crops at the local market of a small district town. Coming from an indigenous community himself, the filmmaker was used to see old people working their land and selling their crops. However, this old farmer from Chiapas (Mexico) is different: “Con las Manos en la Tierra” portrays a physically handicapped indigenous Zoque farmer – but by not focusing on the protagonist’s disability, the film surprises and confronts the audience with common prejudices.
