Welcome to the subtropical survival training in the Colombian jungle region of Darien. Here, Neil Armstrong and his team of astronauts prepare for their journey to the moon. Neocolonial fantasies merge with European visions of the future of lunar colonisation and US plans to exploit the region’s resources. A complex collage emerges on the canvas, debunking Western notions of continued hegemonic domination of the Global South.
In BIENVENIDOS CONQUISTADORES INTERPLANETARIOS Y DEL ESPACIO SIDERAL Andrés Jurado deconstructs the footage of the astronaut boot camp and the images and sounds of Western space propaganda. And he contrasts these with the stories of the Jaibanas, who communicate with animals, plants and ancestors, and who, according to their mythology, wait to return to the moon after death.

Artist, filmmaker, and co-director of La Vulcanizadora, explores expanded cinema. El Renacer del Carare (2020) won a Special Mention at FIDMarseille and the Audience Award in Paris. Yarokamena (2022) premiered at Berlinale Forum Expanded and earned a DocLisboa mention. Bienvenidos Conquistadores Interplanetarios y del Espacio Sideral (2024) competed at FIDMarseille. Andrés has been selected by Museo Reina Sofía, DocLisboa, and FIDMarseille for the Joaquim Jordà Residency 2025.
