Eigtheen floor plans of the apartments in which Miriam Bajtala lived serve as the backdrop for her film. Red strings turn into a spatial life story that tells of Bajtala’s coming of age and her journey of migration. Along the spaces, she attempts to cast her life in an artistic form and asks what it means to originate from an economically disadvantaged and patriarchal family and how self-empowerment can be achieved in these circumstances.
BECOMING OUTLINE is Miriam Bajtala’s experiment in autoethnography – film and performance, images and voices, fiction and document intertwine seamlessly and interweave the private with the public. In the confrontation with her own (family)history, distance and familiarity, rational understanding and affective involvement intermingle.

BIOGRAPHY
* 1970, Slovak Republic – Visual Artist and Filmmaker. She lives, sleeps and works mostly in Vienna.
Studied art history at the University in Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.
2011-18: Lecturer at the Institute of Experimental Art, University of Art and Design Linz
2021: Gabriele-Heidecker-Award;
2012: Outstanding Artist Award for visual Arts;
She shows her works in exhibitions and at film festivals.
