PART OF THE GUEST PROGRAMME CURATED BY KATARINA HEDRÉN
When legendary poet Audre Lorde, who described herself as “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,” lived in West Berlin, she became a catalyst for the African German movement. As a poetry workshop leader and mentor, she contributed to German African identities establishing a new self-awareness and helped to get their voices heard.
The documentary AUDRE LORDE – THE BERLIN YEARS 1984-1992 is an intimate portrait of the poet, a testament to Lorde’s influence and legacy, and a tribute to the first generation of African German activists and the community they founded.
