AMERYKANKA. ALL INCLUDED
Viktar Korzoun | Belarus 2013 | 52 Min. | OmeU
The film is dealing with the everyday life of a political prisoner in the so-called Amerykanka, the notorious torture center and KGB prison in Minsk. After the demonstrations against the results of the presidential elections of December 19th 2010, several opposition members were arrested and brought to Amerykanka. One among them was the author and journalist Aljaksandr Fjaduta, who used to be one of Lukashenko’s advisers 20 years ago, and then joined the opposition.
He was detained for more than three months, 50 days of which he spent in solitary confinement. Fjaduta handled and processed his arrest, the interrogations and humiliations in a book, which this courageous and stylistically unusual film is based on. The idea of the film – to shift the disappointing reality to the language of literature – is changing its genre from drama to comedy. The terrible state machina is portrayed in ironic tones, the humor is used as a weapon.
