The Brazilian National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) sends an expedition ship upriver to the Javari Valley in the northwestern Amazon region. Aboard with FUNAI are members of the Korubo tribe, who were separated from their group several years ago. The aim of the mission is to enable the long-awaited reunion with their families and to prepare them for the imminent threats posed by poaching, illegal logging, and oil smuggling.
A INVENÇÃO DO OUTRO stages the research mission as a journey into the unknown and dares to perform a cinematic balancing act between unbiased engagement with the alleged ‘other’ and raising awareness for the rights and protection of isolated groups.
