Warum genau ihre Mutter nicht mehr in ihrer senegalesischen Heimat, sondern in Belgien lebt, weiß Angela selbst nicht wirklich. Die nun sechsjährige Angela wurde hier geboren und lebt ein unbeschwertes Leben, ohne sich der komplexen sozio-politischen Lage bewusst zu sein, in der sich ihre Familie befindet. Und doch, als Kind mit schwarzer Hautfarbe ist ihr Alltag in Flandern immer wieder von Rassismus und der Frage nach Zugehörigkeit geprägt.
ELONG E’NABE zeigt die Welt durch Angelas Augen und lässt die Zuschauer*innen an ihrem Optimismus teilhaben, der sich in der starken Bindung zwischen Mutter und Tochter ausdrückt und die verworrene Situation überwindbarer zu machen scheint.

Biography
Niels Devlieghere is an independent director and photographer, focusing on documentaries and music videos. Throughout his early twenties, he constantly found himself documenting his friend’s lives with his camera. In 2020 he graduated as a director from the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITCS) in Brussels. His graduation film Elong E’nabe got selected at several film festivals and won a VAF Wildcard for Documentary. His work includes a series of intimate portraits and short films in which the young filmmaker immerses himself in the lived world of his subjects.
