Als die legendäre Dichterin Audre Lorde, die sich selbst als „schwarz, lesbisch, Mutter, Kriegerin, Dichterin“ bezeichnete, in West-Berlin lebte, wurde sie zum Katalysator für die afrodeutsche Bewegung. Als Leiterin von Poesie-Workshops und Mentorin trug sie dazu bei, dass deutsch-afrikanische Identitäten zu einem neuen Selbstbewusstsein fanden und ihre Stimmen gehört wurden.
Der Dokumentarfilm AUDRE LORDE – THE BERLIN YEARS 1984–1992 von Dagmar Schultz ist ein intimes Porträt der Dichterin, ein Zeugnis von Lordes Einfluss und Vermächtnis, sowie eine Hommage an die erste Generation afrodeutscher Aktivist*innen und die von ihnen gegründete Gemeinschaft.

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Berlin, Germany. She received her training at Berlin’s Freie Univer- sität, in the USA and in Puerto Rico from 1963- 72 and subsequently lectured at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Freie Universität and at Alice Solomon University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. In 1974 she was a co-founder of the Feminist Women’s Health Centre in Berlin, the first of its kind in Germany. She co-founded the Orlanda Women’s Press Berlin in the same year.
