THE TIME TO GO HAS COME AND GONE

The town of Welch in McDowell County, West Virginia, once was the center of the coal producing industry in the United States of America. Today there are almost no jobs left in the once booming industry and when Welch appears in the media, it’s because of high drug abuse and rampant unemployment. Donald Trump gained 76% of the vote here, even though the residents of Welch voted for Barack Obama in the last two presidential elections. The town stands as an example for many other structurally weak regions within the US and worldwide, which are particularly open for populist messages.
