Part of the Short Film Program IN FOCUS: HAUNTINGS

In DES RÊVES EN BATEAUX PAPIERS, director Samuel Suffren explores the emotional complexities of separation and longing. Edouard and his daughter Zara have lived alone in Port-au-Prince since his wife emigrated to the United States five years ago, leaving behind only a single cassette recording. This relic becomes their tenuous link to her, embodying both her love and the vast distance between them. An unexpected reunion forces Edouard to confront deep questions about love, absence, and the enduring ties that bind a family across time and space. Suffren’s poignant narrative pushes the boundaries of documentary forms in this deeply autobiographical film that fuses real life footage with lay actors to tell its story.
